Stories I Only Tell My Friends

“I’m thinking of how unexpected and yet oddly preordained life can be. Events are upon you in an instant, unforseen and without warning, and often times marked with disappointment and tragedy, but equally often leading to a better understanding of the bittersweet truth of life.” – Rob Lowe

Today I finished Rob Lowe’s book Stories I Only Tell My Friends and I honestly feel like Rob Lowe is my best friend now.

I read his book Love Life last year, and I loved it, but Stories has juicier secrets, which I love. (I guess secrets probably isn’t the best word to use, since it’s a published book, but it’s not common knowledge).

Not much makes me happier in life than knowing a million times more about my favorite celebrities than what I probably should.

I learned that Rob Lowe’s first car was a Mazda 626. What was my first car, you might ask? It was a Mazda 626! See! We were destined to be bffs!!!!

“Be funny whenever possible, even if some people don’t get it.” – Rob Lowe

I love 80’s movies. I have a Sixteen Candles poster painted on wood in my room. Some of my favorite movies are St. Elmo’s Fire, Adventures In Babysitting, Back to the Future, Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. (Shout out to my parents for always showing me the classics!)

However, I was born in 1994, so I missed all the real drama of the 80’s..I’m incredibly upset about this, but thrilled that the people who were actually present for the drama openly talk about it!! Thank you, Rob!!!!

I learned about most of Rob’s scenes being cut out of The Outsiders. I learned about a feud between Rob and Michael J Fox. I learned even more details than I knew before about the drama on how the infamous Brat Pack got it’s name. (Last year I read a book about the Brat Pack and John Hughes: You Couldn’t Ignore Me If You Tried by Susannah Gora!) I learned about Rob’s friendship with Chris Farley, and so much more.

I loved this book, and I think I love Rob Lowe more now than I did last week (if that’s possible!)

I’m now going back to watching The West Wing after getting distracted last year and stopping halfway through the 1st season.

I hope your weekend is going well! Stay warm!!

Love, Hannah
